Non-enamelled Cast Iron (Raw & Pre-Seasoned)

Constructed from iron, Cast iron cookware is sturdy, distributes heat evenly and is naturally non-stick and non-reactive when seasoned correctly. Its ability to withstand and maintain high temperatures make it perfect for grilling, stewing, baking, roasting, frying and stovetop-to-oven cooking.
Traditional ‘raw’ cast iron requires seasoning (creating a non-stick, protective coating by rubbing oil and heating to a high temperature) where as pre-season cast iron does not.

Non-enamelled Cast Iron Care Instructions

Seasoning

Seasoning your cast iron cookware keeps it in good condition and helps prevents food from sticking. Some cast iron will come pre-seasoned however, for unseasoned raw cast iron it is recommended you season before using.
– Make sure your cookware is washed and dried thoroughly. Heat slightly to remove all traces of water if necessary.
– Lightly apply cooking oil to the surface (Do not apply to exterior if coated with porcelain enamel).
– Place upside-down in a preheated oven (250OC) for 2 hours.
– Once heated, remove carefully and let cool.
You may season several times (steps 2-4) for better results. Re-seasoning will require less time in the oven.

Cleaning

– Clean with stiff brush and hot water after each use. Do not use soap or other harsh washing detergents and never soak your cast iron cookware.
– Towel dry immediately after washing and apply a small amount of cooking oil to coat cookware while still warm to keep it well seasoned. Never air dry cookware as this can promote rust.
– Store your cookware in a cool, dry place. Prop up lids on any covered items or leave uncovered in storage to promote air flow and prevent moisture collecting and rust forming
IMPORTANT! Never put cast iron in the dishwasher.

Stovetop/Oven Suitability

Cast iron cookware is suitable for use on gas, electric, hot plate, ceramic, halogen and Induction stove tops.
All cast iron is designed for slow cooking in the oven. Maximum oven safe temperature will depend on the lid handles of each individual piece. For more information, please refer to your cookware packaging/care sheet or contact us for further details.
